Help Give Seniors in our Community the Holiday they Deserve!

Help us raise $30,000 and give seniors in our community a holiday they deserve.

Fact: There are more than 82,500 seniors living in Guelph, Wellington and Dufferin.  1 in 4 live alone and feel no connection to their community.

Growing old doesn’t have to be lonely and no one wants to be alone during the holidays.  But the reality is, many of our older population live on their own, isolated, with no family nearby to provide companionship.

United Way invests in programs that improve seniors’ social supports, reduce isolation and help create a sense of belonging within their community.

Give today and you can help United Way provide local seniors with a lifeline of programs they need to lead happy, healthy and productive lives — this holiday season and throughout the year.

Double the Impact of Your Gift

Our goal is to raise $30,000 to fund these initiatives.  Donate now and your donation will matched by our sponsor – The Co-operators, and a generous group of donors, including:

In Memory of Angelo and Victoria Moccia
Ken Dardano
Kimberley and Vince Rogers
Rick McCombie
Donie Fogarty

Steve Allen

As always, your donation will stay 100% local.  Every dollar counts.

Meet Porter

Meet PORTER, a very handsome 2 year old tabby cat.We responded to a call to Mount Forest July 31 where this poor little guy was found by the Toronto Soaring Club. He had suffered extensive trauma from most likely being hit by a car. There were lots of scabs all over him, his back left leg had an open wound that was several days old, he had scrotal abrasions, broken canines and damaged incisors all on the left side.  Porters recovery depended upon GHS to provide the lifesaving medical care he needed. Xrays showed damage to the left hip, which would require femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery to allow him to regain function of his back leg. This little guy then began a long road to recovery in a loving foster home where he received physiotherapy and, reluctantly a first, went for underwater treadmill therapy.

” It’s crazy to believe Porter is the same cat I brought home past op 3 months ago. he is an incredibly smart cat, who loves learning new tricks and being challenged especially with food puzzles. he is also a big cuddle bug, there is no such thing as personal space with porter around. I’m so glad I was able to help him in his recovery and now give him the forever home he deserves!”- Brittany H.

Caring for pets can be very expensive, bu their ‘happy tails’ are worth it. there are so many more animals like Porter that need our care. this year so far, over $200,000 has been needed to cover the costs of just veterinary care alone, not including the everyday needs of food, supplies, and more.

GHS relies solely on the community’s support and your generous gifts mean so much to every animal that comes into our care. We are extremely thankful for every donation as it helps them find the’ happy tail’ they so desperately deserve.

Bporter GHS logoest wishes for the holiday season , and all the best in the coming year,

Adrienne McBridge

Movies 4 Mental Health- Art with Impact

This year Art With Impact are aiming to fundraise in support of an upcoming ‘Movies 4 Mental Health’ event that will support students and community members in creating authentic, meaningful discussions around mental health to encourage easier access to resources. It will be taking place January 17, 2018 and all donations help make this powerful workshop accessible to more students. Their organization is all about using the power of storytelling to inspire – here is a powerful example of one of the students we work with:

Royal LePage Royal City Realty and Guelph

River Run Centre

River Run Centre is proud to celebrate their 20th year of providing quality entertainment, most importantly, their 17th year of bringing the arts to elementary students throughout Guelph and the surrounding area.  As you may know, River Run Centre is Guelph’s signature performing arts facility.  As a Qualified Donee through the Corporation of the City of Guelph, we employ 13 full time staff, 40 part-time/seasonal staff and over 150 dedicated local volunteers. As part of their mandate to enhance the cultural life of the community, they also offer an annual series of professional performances, outreach programs including youth mentorship and a vibrant school program for students of the City of Guelph. Between their River Run Presents Series and our many rentals to outside producers the Centre sees more than 50,000 visitors each year.

Their mission is to enhance the artistic and cultural life of Guelph through programming guided by the following objectives:

  • To provide opportunities for professional Canadian and International artists to showcase their talents and develop their audiences
  • To foster an appreciation for a wide range of performing arts through culturally diverse and high quality programming, interactive experiences and community collaborations
  • To help children and young people acquire knowledge and a taste for the performing arts through frequent experiences of professional performances

Each season they propose to present more than 100 artists in public performances – grouped into 10 annual series including Market Square community outreach events plus a new Speaker Series in 2018.

The program that most exemplifies the way in which they give back to Guelph is their Linamar for the Performing Arts Program.  Linamar for the Performing Arts is River Run’s signature program of professional performances presented to over 16,800 children in Grades 1 through 8 throughout Guelph and surrounding areas. It offers children the opportunity to experience 2 performances a year of music, drama, dance or spoken word, inclusive of all genres and traditions in a professional theatre setting. This program is a unique long-term audience development initiative that ensures curatorial excellence and accessibility for every child, no matter their family’s financial situation, through an admission free policy.   It is exciting knowing each year they host an entirely new group of Grade 1 students, coming into the theatre for their first experiences.logo-riverrun

In order to continue the variety of programming we have established over the last 20 years we feature our donation campaign each November.  The funds raised through this campaign will assist with our current and future productions and development.   Here is the link to their giving page…

Home for The Holidays

For many people, the holidays are filled with gift giving, baking, time with family, and celebration. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for everyone.
1 in 5 people in Guelph live in core housing and in Dufferin, 1 in 10 people live in poverty. Together, we can help change this.

This holiday season, we’re asking Guelph and Dufferin to build home for the holidays, and home forever.

When someone donates to Habitat, the funds will go directly to building homes in our community. Whether it’s $50 towards the wall that holds the family portrait or $1,000 for a fridge that showcases this semester’s report card, your financial support will help us purchase the necessities of the home.

In Guelph, that’s Cityview Village: 30 homes for 30 families and individuals, and in Dufferin, we’ll be funding the pieces of our upcoming development.
No one should have to wish for a safe and decent place to call home, and with the help of our community, no one will ever have to.

Shout out to Intrigue Media forhabitat partnering with Habitat to raise awareness and funds for affordable home ownership in this community on Giving Tuesday!ontario-marketing-agency-intrigue-media-logo

The Guelph Synchronized Swimming Club a not-for-profit, member supported club.

The main objective of the Guelph Synchronized Swimming Club is to engage youth in sport and to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. At their executive meeting this week  the members of the board decided to reach out to the community through the Children’s Foundation to invite two children to participate in our Little Mermaid Recreational Program held on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 -6:30 pm at Centennial Pool. Children should be between the ages of 5-7 and have some basic swimming skills to participate. This age group will start learning basic skills (sculling, body position) that are the fundamentals of synchronized swimming in a fun-filled environment. Swimmers will learn basic routine skills such as patterns, traveling and counting to music. Swimmers will create a routine to showcase at the water shows. Lessons are based on Synchro Ontario’s ‘Swim Synchro!’ Program. This project is in support of Guelph Gives and the Giving Tuesday initiative. Guelph Synchro strongly believes in giving back to our community and they are looking forward to welcoming their newest swimmers. th

United Way and the Red Piggy

United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin has always been a strong component of support within our community. Providing support to over 55 agencies and 88 programs, it’s the least to say they have a major impact on lives of those within our community. For Giving Tuesday united way is pairing up with local businesses to raise funds this Guelph Gives. Red Piggy banks are placed around the Guelph area in a means of raising funds from donations. This is the beginning of the Giving season so while we are out shopping for Christmas gifts or out for meals; make a conscious choice by sparing some change for a good cause! Print

How to get involved as a business!

Guelph black and white

You’ve heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday—days great for the economy and for getting a good deal—well now we having GivingTuesday…a day that is great for the community!
GivingTuesday is a day to kick-off the giving season and celebrate all forms of giving as we work together to build a better community. It is the perfect day for a not-for-profit to launch a holiday campaign, for a foundation to announce grants, for a business to raise funds or awareness for a charity, for a team of people to get together to volunteer their time and for individuals to engage with the local causes that are impacting this community and the world.
GivingTuesday came to Guelph a few years ago with the project Guelph Gives, and with thousands of clothing items donated, over a hundred new organ donors, thousands of volunteer hours, over 2,000,000 twitter impressions nationally, and with more than $1.2 million invested in this community on that day, we couldn’t imagine not running this day again. And we want you to be part of 2017!
Getting involved is easy, all you need to do is think of a way that you and your business could give back to any great local cause and then do it! No idea is too big or too small.

You could:
• Find a creative way to gain donations from your customers and give them to a charity of your choice.
• Get a team together to volunteer for a great cause.
• Partner with a great local not-for-profit organization and help them reach their GuelphGives goal.
• Hold a penny drive, a clothing drive, a cookie sale, or any type of small fundraiser and then donate
to your favourite charity.
• Host a challenge with another local business to see who can raise the most of something (i.e.
canned goods, clothing, volunteer hours etc.)
Create a social media campaign to build awareness over a community issue.

Whatever you do, do it under the banner of Guelph Gives. When we give back together, as a community, we inspire others by showcasing the POWER OF GENEROSITY. Let us know what you are doing and we will feature you on our website and on social media so that everyone can know how generous you are!
Let’s all aspire to inspire as we celebrate a place we all know and love, Guelph!
Check out or follow the team on twitter @GuelphGives to learn more.

Here are some great give-back ideas from other local businesses:
Lucky Iron Fish, a local philanthropic businesses, is going to be giving and Iron Fish to select not-for-profit organizations to put in their Christmas Hampers being distributed to those living in poverty. These iron fish, when placed in with your cooking food, will supplement iron for families that may lack the resources to get proper nutrition.

Throughout the month of November, The Neighbour Hood Group will be donating 50 cents from every Mill St. Organic beer purchase to the Grand River Conservation Foundation and they will be announcing this total for Guelph Gives. They will also be giving coupons to patrons on December 1st as a give-back to customers.

Perkin-Elmer is going to be hosting a hat and mitten drive this year at their office. They will be collecting these winter necessities throughout the month of November and placing them on a Christmas tree. Come December 1st, Giving Day, they will be donating them to HOPE House, a local not-for-profit agency.

Buffalo Wild Wings is going to be hosting non-perishable food collection at their store in the weeks leading up to Giving Day and donating the goods to a local food bank. They are also going to host in-house give backs on the day-of to celebrate giving in this community.

Why get involved?

1. Be A Community Leader: A great way to establish your business, as a community leader is to support the community that you are part of. Serving and helping those who need help is pivotal to being a great leader—let people know that you care about Guelph!
2. Increase Your Support Base: With so much attention on businesses that have “B Corp” status or great social responsibility practices, customers are buying from businesses that recognize the need to give back. Be a business recognized for your generosity and grow the number of people who want to support you!

3. Great Promotion: We believe in the power of generosity and WANT to share your story. Get involved in Guelph Gives and we will make sure people know about it! Last year we reached over 2,000,000 Twitter Impressions—be part of the viral movement and let us tell everyone how generous you are. Giving is easy and there is no better attention than being known for giving back!

Thank You From Guelph Gives

Yesterday the power of generosity was evident throughout our entire city! Thank you to everyone who made GuelphGives, our local expression of Giving Tuesday, the most amazing day of the year and helping us prove once again Guelph is Canada’s most generous city.

We launched the day with a motivational community breakfast and by halfway through the day we were trending nationally on Twitter. We had 100 businesses and over 40 non-profits participate – by far our most successful #GuelphGives yet! Thank you again for taking part in this day and making Guelph all that is it. Don’t forget to continue to give back to the community, your neighbours and friends; however you can, all year round!

We want to give a very special thank you to:

Check Out Our Giving Stories

To kick-off our Guelph Gives day we celebrated together with community leaders; we gathered together, ate delicious food, encouraged each other and celebrated giving.

As part of this celebration we shared some giving stories from our community; people who have been impacted by giving and wanted to share their experience.

Please check out these stories below!

St. Joe’s Shares a Lasting Gift

After experiencing a fall on her 85th birthday, Dorothy Robertson lived at St. Joseph’s Health Centre for several months to heal physically and to restore her confidence and spirit. “The rehabilitation team was wonderful and very skilled.  Rehab helped mom heal and regain some independence but what really sticks with me was how kind the staff was.  When our family needed St. Joe’s it was there to care for mom beyond her physical needs.”  Recalls Dorothy’s son, Mike Robertson.

Dorothy was able to return home and enjoy life for another 5 years before she passed away.  When the time came to distribute the money from her Will, St. Joe’s was a clear choice to leave a portion of Dorothy’s estate to.  “We knew mom would want to support the work that St. Joe’s is doing in the community; we were grateful for the care and compassion they’d shown our family, and we were confident that they would put the funds to good use.”

Today, thanks to the generosity of the Robertson family rehabilitation patients are benefitting from a Sit-to-Stand trainer and Rollator Trainer.

“Our patients have been given the gift of mobility and independence. Our staff appreciates having these tools too, because they reduce the physical strain when they’re helping patients entrusted in our care.” Says Wayne Lew, Manager of Ambulatory Care and Outpatient Services at St. Joe’s.

We are so grateful for all the community support that St. Joe’s receives.  Your gifts help our patients and residents every day, in so many ways.

Push For Change for Youth Homelessness

Guelph Gives is happy to welcome a new partner this year in Push For Change.

Push For Change is a national initiative that is rolling through Guelph (and area) between Dec 20th and 23rd. This initiative was started by Joe Roberts, who was formerly a homeless youth in Vancouver’s east side; he suffered with addiction and mental health. He said that one day, if he ever made it, he would pay it back. And he did… His story is referred to as “from Skid Row to CEO”. He is taking 18 months to wheel a shopping cart across Canada, speak at schools and community events, with the intention of raising awareness (and funds) to youth homelessness.

Learn more about Push For Change with the video below or with their one-pager here and support their work by clicking here

A New Way to Give: Be a Donor

Giving Tuesday and Guelph Gives is all about altruism – doing something good for someone other than oneself. It is normal to think the ‘Give’ has to be money or time.

But there is another ‘Give’ that does not involve money or volunteering, and could be the greatest ‘Give’ of all. It is giving the gift of life through organ & tissue donation. It is the giving the gift of HOPE.

At any given time there are around 1500 people in Ontario waiting for an organ that will save their life. Everyone has organs, and organs can fail at any age, for a number of different reasons. Luckily many of the 1500 leave the list because an organ is found and their life is saved, but unfortunately, one person dies every 3 days waiting for an organ that does not come in time.

In Guelph, although 85% of people say they support organ & tissue donation, only 38% of OHIP cardholders are registered to donate. This is not something that is top of mind for most of us, so we do not act, because we do not know what a profound impact we can have on someone else’s life. But one organ donor has the potential to save up to 8 lives, and help 75 more people through the donation of tissue.

So that is why, for Guelph Gives on Giving Tuesday, we are asking people to give the gift of life by registering their wishes to do so at In giving 2 minutes of their time to register now, they will be giving someone hope that someday they will have a future.

TorchLight Thanks Community for 50 Years of Generosity

TorchLight is proud and grateful for the broad range of generosity that is extended to our agency!

Generosity has been the essence of TorchLight for more than 50 years. From United Way and other funders and sponsors across all programs and services that include The Distress Line in-bound response, CONNECT out-bound support, Youth Support Line and Temporary Shelter Resource Line.

We have seen such generosity from a caring community of professional partnerships; the selfless efforts of a dedicated team of volunteers spanning all demographics, committed staff in Guelph-Wellington Dufferin and Orangeville and from a Board of Directors who value the service we offer our most complex and vulnerable people, all allow TorchLight to respond to more than 50,000 calls a year.

TorchLight has experienced a myriad of incarnations, beginning during World War I, where a ‘safe-haven’ was established in Flanders Fields for all soldiers– regardless of rank – to find solace and comfort to speak about their fears and trepidations. Talbot House, as it was known then, was established through the generosity of a small group of people who believed that all who gave service to their country deserved respect and compassion, regardless of rank.

From that day to this generosity has been the backbone of how TorchLight is able to continue the work begun so many years ago at Talbot House; generosity of heart and spirit; generosity of people who give their hard-earned dollars to United Way allowing us to keep our doors open; generosity of volunteer time – away from family on holidays and special events – showing up every day and stepping up to respond to others who are living through tough times; generosity of staff and board members who ride out the challenges; and generosity of the people who use our services and honour us with their trust and their real-life stories and permit us to offer support and compassion when and where it is most needed.

Thank you to all for generosity received and generosity given!

Skyline Kicks Off a Month of Giving

SKYLINEFor the third year in a row, Skyline Group of Companies is participating in Guelph Gives!

To celebrate Guelph Gives, Skyline is rolling out its second annual “month of giving” throughout November and early December. Employees at Skyline’s two corporate offices at Douglas Street and Fountain Street in Guelph (totaling about 120 people altogether!) will serve more than 2,500 meals to over 900 kids, through volunteering at “Food and Friends” nutrition programs organized by the Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington. Skyline sponsors 9 of these programs, and it will be sending 30 small groups of staff to volunteer at various programs throughout the city! These “Food and Friends” programs serve 1.26 million meals a year for hungry kids in the Guelph/Wellington area. Skyline’s month of giving was a huge success in its first year, and staff are excited to get out and volunteer at these programs again in 2016.

“This is about so much more than volunteering and community service for us,” said Marissa Teeter, Vice President of Skyline Wealth Management Inc (a division of the Skyline Group of Companies).  “This is about fuelling our Skyline team to do more, to inspire others and to be inspired.

We don’t just want to donate cheques, we want to change lives – our own and those of others–and the best way to do that is to get our hands dirty on the front lines, side by side with the amazing organizations who do the most incredible work in our community.  We are following their lead.

Skyline is also adopting 12 local Guelph families this year through Adopt-a-Family, another local initiative organized by the Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington. Skyline staff will be shopping for 6 families, and Skyline is “matching” with another 6 families! In total, they are giving 45 moms, dads and kids all of the gifts they need to have an amazing holiday!

Skyline’s pledge to give back and build strong communities–all year round, not just on Giving Tuesday–is an intrinsic part of its corporate growth plan. With many local and national awards and nominations under its belt for our community initiatives, Skyline has earned a reputation as a philanthropic company in Guelph, and also in the Canadian real estate industry at large. Skyline’s three key charities are all located in Guelph (Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guelph, the Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington, and Shelldale Better Beginnings, Better Futures), and it chooses to give back to its hometown as an ongoing symbol of thankfulness for the city that helped build the company from the ground up.

But it doesn’t stop there; Skyline extends its mission to each community in which its buildings are located; dozens of cities and communities across Canada. From its founders, to managers, to employees, suppliers and tenants alike, all friends of Skyline are encouraged to give back to their communities through Skyline’s initiatives, and as individuals.

Thanks so much to Skyline for the commitment to giving back in Guelph and throughout this country!

We’re Back!

It is once again time for Guelph Gives and we are back with another great campaign. This year we are going to do things a little differently and we are so excited to celebrate Giving Tuesday with you.

Rather than focus on one day of giving, as we have for the last few years, we want to kick-off the giving season by using this day to both celebrate this year in giving and to encourage our community to continue to give back this holiday season.

How are we going to do this? Well, we are going to be launching a digital conversation that will culminate on November 29th, the day for this year’s Guelph Gives. In the 30 days leading up to this event, we are going to be highlighting different giving stories in this community and posting them through all sort of mediums that can be (and will be) accessed by the entire Guelph community. We will be creating a conversation about giving and the impact that it makes. Thus, when November 29 hits, we will have built a huge springboard of momentum that every charity can benefit from.

For businesses, please let us know the giving you have been doing, will be doing on November 29th or what you are doing for this holiday season. We want the community to be inspired by your generosity.

For charities, share the stories of the people you serve, a need you have this holiday season or an on-going campaign. We want to help you reach your goals, so share them with us to get the word out there.

We want to put your stories on our website, social media feeds and connect it to our partners to get it out into the community; this promotes you and also giving as a whole.
So please use the hastag #GuelphGives, the handle @guelphgives, or connect with us via Facebook or through e-mail ( leading up to and on November 29th. You can do this with any post you create!

Also, we will be kicking off the day with a community leaders breakfast where will be sharing some of your giving stories and hearing from a community panel on celebrating generosity. We hope you can join us.

Whatever you do, let’s celebrating this Giving Tuesday with Guelph Gives and inspire generosity together!

Thanks for Giving!

Thank youAnother Guelph Gives day has passed and we were so proud of this community. We had an amazing time celebrating with you and will be giving updates as they come in (all that tracking takes a little bit of work). If you haven’t reported in yet, or shared your giving story, please click here—we can take you right to our form, which literally will only take 2 minutes to fill out! Without you reporting in, we can’t share the most accurate results.

We also want to take this time to say a huge THANK YOU to all of Guelph for having such a giving spirit. We were amazed, inspired, overjoyed and overwhelmed with all of your amazing giveback goals, campaigns and stories. We believe giving is inspiring and you certainly inspired all of us.

In order to make this day happen, we have some very special people come alongside us and we want to take this chance to say a special thank you to them.

First to our Gold Sponsor Fusion Homes. Fusion has been amazing to work with and they did a fabulous giveback for Women in Crisis. Thank you to Fusion for believing in the power of giving.

We also want to thank Sleeman Brewery and RBC Wealth Management team of Bird Elinesky Schuett for their sponsorship and for their day-of participation. Both of these groups were so quick to say “yes” when they heard about giving back to the community!

We want to thank the City of Guelph and Guelph Transit. The City helped us make this day possible and was always available for support. They also gave us use of City Hall and the their there was so great to work with. Guelph Transit made sure that every bus in Guelph read Guelph Gives and supplied a bus for the Fill a Bus at Zehrs on Imperial (thank you to them as well).

For our Jubilation event we want to thank Platters Catering, Bite and Goodness Me for providing the most delicious food. Everyone commented on how great the food and snacks were and it was so generous of them to come out and support our celebration event. We also want to thank Starbucks (Wellington & Gordon) and Tim Horton’s (Gordon & Kortright) for providing coffee and hot chocolate to help us warm up!

We want to thank the performers (arranged by the GYMC) who entertained us and Intrigue Media for running games (along with everything else that you did)!

We want to thank all of the locations that hosted us throughout the day: Zehrs, Walmart, Meridian Bank, Stone Road Mall, Quebec Street Mall, Guelph Public Library and City Hall.

We want to thank every business and charity that participated with us. We may not be able to thank you all individually, but we are happy to retweet and share anything you send our way. You are forces of giving in this community and it was such a genuine joy to see your love for Guelph and the people you serve.

Last, and most certainly not least, we have to thank our committee of about 13 individuals who came to meetings, who planned and e-mailed and made sure that everything went off without a hitch. Every single one of those individuals has a day job in this community and did this above and beyond their already busy schedule. Thank you to you!

Thanks for giving Guelph—it has been a pleasure to celebrate generosity with you!

GG JubilationAs we celebrate giving in this City, we are going to do it party style, coming together as a community to just have a good time.

More places to give!

Here are some more amazing causes that you can support in honour of Guelph Gives. Let’s kick off the giving season by showcasing just how generous we can be. Will you consider supporting one of the fantastic groups below?”

Children's FoundationThe Children’s Foundation of Guelph & Wellington- We will be kicking off our annual Trees for Tots campaign. We have been advertising and promoting and the registration goes live on December 1st for giving Tuesday. This program is really a Win,Win,Win. You win because you get your tree disposed of, the children who are supported by the Children’s Foundation win as last year we raised over $30,000, and the Environment wins because all of the Pine Mulch produced goes into a local restoration project. This program is just a wonderful way to give!

If you would like to learn more about the Trees for Tots program or support the Children’s Foundation, please click here.

Moods Disorder Support GroupMood Disorders Support Group of Guelph- We have placed a link on our website and are holding a workshop on “WRAP for the Holidays”.

If you would like to support the work of the Mood Disorders Support Group of Guelph, check them out here.

Farm Food CareFarm and Food Care Canada– Help us “Dish out  the Real Dirt on Farming”! Your funding provides Canadians with credible information on how their food is grown here at home. Our country has a population of about 35 million, but less than 730,000 farmers – this has led to a huge disconnect between the farm and our dinner plates. The Real Dirt on Farming booklet is designed to connect Canadians with the food they eat and introduce them to some of Canada’s farm families. With your support we can share our “Real Dirt on Farming” booklet with more Canadians and help them make informed choices about the food they eat.

It was important for us to also reach out to older audiences, as many of our 1st generation of GSO supporters are now living in retirement communities or in assisted living, making it difficult for them to come to River Run Centre for our regular concerts. These performance will feature members of the orchestra and not one, but two piano parts; one played by our Artistic Director, Judith Yan and the other by the young and talented Guelph pianist (and GSO librarian), Morgan Melbourne. We ask for your support in mounting these concerts which will include the added cost of bringing a second piano to both locations.

We would like to take the time on Giving Tuesday to formally thank our incredible donors for all that they do for our community. We couldn’t save lives and improve health without you.

If you would like to support the Guelph General Hospital and the work they do, please click here.

There are so many amazing charities that are part of Guelph Gives, and each has awesome goals they want to achieve. Can you help these charities reach their giving goals? Check them out!

Habitat for HumanityHabitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph– As a part of the GivingTuesday 2015 movement, our goal is to raise $18,000 which is 10% of funds needed to support a build. Our ‘Giving 4 Habitat Building’ initiative is also to encourage people to pass it forward by inviting 4 friends, family and colleagues to support #Giving4Habitat! We are also taking this opportunity to encourage volunteers to support and promote our 25 homes in 5-yrs ‘You have the power to change a life” campaign!

rite 2 lifeGuelph & Area Right to Life– We will be seeking volunteers for our Sanctuary Outreach project. The Sanctuary Outreach program provides peer support and a community to help women/couples in crisis pregnancies navigate the resources available to them. We hope to encourage the community to volunteer and help us reach out to women/couples in need.

If you would like to support the Right to Life, please click here.

Shoebox ProjectThe Shoebox Project for Shelters–Little luxuries are items that enhance our lives in small ways. We rarely think about them. Yet a coffee card, lotions, chocolates or a warm hat can help make a woman feel special. This holiday season, we are looking to members of our generous community to fill a shoebox with $50 worth of these little luxuries, and then The Shoebox Project for Shelters (supported by Dream) will deliver it to women who are living in and / or accessing the services of Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis during the holidays.
This small gesture of filling a shoebox, decorating it and including an inspirational card or personalized note has a big impact on the woman who receives it. A special gift, just for her, will not only brighten her day during difficult times, but it will also let her know that someone in her community is thinking about her, and remind her that she is not forgotten. We call this showing some “Shoebox Love.”
This year, we hope to collect 50 shoeboxes for local women in need, and show the women of Guelph-Wellington that they are part of a community that cares about them!
You can help by either filling a shoebox or making a cash donation to support this year’s (or a future) shoebox drive in our community. #lovewhatsinside

Skyline Volunteers

SKYLINELast year Skyline was one of the first companies to come on board and support Guelph Gives. They are known throughout the community for their solid business reputation, but also their dedication to giving back to the communities they live and work in; this year is no exception!

Throughout the month of November, different teams of Skyline employees will spend a few hours volunteering at one of image002[1]the Children’s Foundation of Guelph/Wellington’s “Food and Friends” school nutrition programs. Skyline sponsors nine of these programs in the Guelph/Wellington area and thought it would be a great idea to make November a month of Skyline volunteering leading up to official “Giving Tuesday” on December 1st. On December 1st, Skyline will announce their total number of volunteer hours given to this amazing program. Let’s celebrate the power of volunteering with them!

We want to thank Skyline for their continue commitment to giveback to this (and other) communities. It is amazing to partner with you once again. Check out some of the photos and see how much fun the “Food and Friends” program is!

Organizations that need your help!

KidsAbilityKidsAbility Foundation– KidsAbility Centre for Child Development is the recognized leader in Guelph-Wellington for empowering children and youth with a wide range of complex special needs.

Over 693 children annually receive services at KidsAbility in Guelph-Wellington so that they can reach their full potential. This includes children who cannot walk or talk properly; premature and “at risk” babies; and children with complex medical syndromes who require therapy and medical support.

Each year, donations raised through our community bridge the ever-widening gap between what the provincial government provides and what is actually needed to provide care to our clients. Presently, there are 112 individual children waiting for services at KidsAbility in Guelph-Wellington.

On #GivingTuesday, your generosity can help get children off the waiting list – and fund vital therapy, pediatric support, essential equipment, assistance to families and more!

Fighting AIDS requires the skills, knowledge, experience and creativity of many. We believe that collaboration at all levels is essential to fighting AIDS and that collaboration must respect local ownership of decision making.

We fight AIDS because we believe that all people have the right to good health. As an organization we respect all people and promote human rights for all. We strive to understand and feel for those who suffer and act in ways that prevent and alleviate that suffering.

Please join us in the fight against HIV/AIDS so we can create one country, AIDS free. If one country can become AIDS free, why not the world?

The Lucky Iron Fish Project Gives to Guelphites

Guelph Gives is so excited to announce the participation of The Lucky Iron Fish for our campaign this year.

The Lucky Iron Fish is a certified B Corporation, which means they are a business doing good. They are all about our social impact, right from production to distribution and “that’s why, when we heard about GuelpGives held on GivingTuesday, we knew we had to find a way to give back to the community,” said LIF’s Impact and Engagement Specialist, Lydia Summerlee.

IMG_5342[1]During the month of December, the Lucky Iron Fish will be providing ‘Fish Tank’ fish to distribute to all the holiday hampers in Guelph, including Lakeside HOPE House. “We are so moved by this act of generosity from the Lucky Iron Fish Project. We work with people who struggle everyday to get the proper nutrition they need to live a full and healthy life—this is a huge gift to all of the families we serve,” said HOPE House Executive Director Karen Kamphuis.

A huge thank you to all of the people at Lucky Iron Fish who are passionate about communities locally and abroad. Your generosity is truly inspiring!

Our Giving Partners- Part 2

Child Witness CentreThe Child Witness Centre– The Child Witness Centre will be launching a holiday giving campaign to raise funds to provide support and walk with children, youth and their families who are victims or witnesses of crime through the court process. We provide them with information about their case and the judicial system, accompany them to court, and support them throughout the process. We have found that with our support, children and youth are less anxious and fearful. They feel empowered and more able to use their voice and tell their story. While we can’t control the outcome in the courtroom, we can influence a child’s emotional well-being by walking the journey with them, and providing the best support possible to child victims and witnesses. This ultimately gives them a better chance at being able to move on and live normal and healthy lives as adults.

If you would like to support the Child Witness Centre, please click here.

F2FFarm 2 Fork– On GivingTuesday, the Farm To Fork team aims to raise $5000 to support mobile app development, and to support the integration of the Farm To Fork system with both the Guelph Community Health Centre’s Garden Fresh Box program, and Meal Exchange’s Trick Or Eat campaign. The money will cover the direct cost of student stipends, as well as costs associated with academic conferences.

Green-Ribbon-with-beadonorTrillium Gift of Life of Network- Did you know that ever organ donor saves 8 lives? You can give the gift of HOPE to the 17 people in Guelph and over 1600 people in Ontario who are currently waiting for an organ that will save their life. Show them that the people of Guelph care by registering your consent to donate your organs and tissue.

Although when asked over 85% of people say they support organ & tissue donation, in Guelph only 35% of us have registered our consent to donate. Why the disconnect? This is not something that is top of mind for most of us, and we do not know what an impact we can have. But one organ donor can save up to 8 lives, and help change the lives of 75 more people through the gift of tissue.

This Guelph Gives will you give the gift of life? Register your consent to donate @

GRCF_LogoGrand River Conservation Foundation– Joining “Dan the Nature Man” to raise $45,000 online for the new Guelph Lake Nature Centre! Giving Back is Easy!

Guelph Gives is all about celebrating every kind of giving. We love telling people that no idea is too big or too small—Guelph Gives is just about giving back in any way you can.

As we talk to people throughout this community, everybody seems eager to give (or already does in amazing ways) but sometimes we still sense a hesitation for people to hop on board. Something we hear so often is that people are already doing so many things (and so many great things) and they are afraid that they would “only” be able to do something small, or they would “just” be able to manage (insert give back here).

We want to assure you, there is no “only” or “just” in the world of Guelph Gives or the world of giving back. Every act of generosity should be celebrated—that’s what we are all about.

We know that people are busy, we know they are committed to great causes and already doing things for the holiday season; we don’t want to over-extend people. Truly, any give-back– from gathering food for a day to sharing a giving story to tweeting about a cause you are passionate about– can be part of Guelph Gives. If you already do a holiday give-back, do it on December 1st or share what you are going to do on December 1st. We want to share your give-back with this community.

Giving can often seem really complicated—it can make people feel like they don’t have a creative enough idea, that they aren’t doing as much as someone else or even that it might take too much time. It doesn’t have to be like that. A single act of generosity can make a difference, and every moment of giving is getting celebrated on December 1st—it’s not about a grand gesture (which yes ,you could do if you wanted), it’s about the beauty of a group of people giving back.

5 Ways to Give Back that Aren’t Monetary!

As we get closer and closer to December 1st, we want to stretch the idea of giving back. Giving back does not mean you need to that you need to give dollars that you might not have. Giving back means to build community and inspire generosity to others.

To help spark your give back ideas, here are 5 great ways you can give back without breaking the bank and that will help you feel good about contributing to this community:

1. Volunteer
This one might be the most obvious way to give back without giving money. Volunteers are the driving force for many charities and non-profits. By giving your time, it allows organizations to reach their capacity. This could mean cutting carrots for soup at a drop in center, sorting clothes in a clothing bureau, answering calls and making appointments, or walking a dog that may not be able to get outside without your time! Volunteering has become really popular in office settings; ask your boss if there are volunteer opportunities through your work.

2. Donating Your Skills
So you went to school, or picked up a really cool hobby. Use these skills for organizations that may not be able to have access to these easily. These could be any where from accounting, graphic design for their website, website building, baking; everyone has a skill set. Someone may just need exactly what you have to offer!

3. Be an advocate
There are so many innovative, cool, doing-really-awesome-work organizations in Guelph and we don’t know about them! What a better way than to raise awareness for an organization that you are passionate about! Be an advocate for this organization by: telling people of the good work, tweeting it, Facebook it, Instagram it, bring friends to an event. Bring a buzz around your fav organization.

4. Minimize your belongings
So you bought a new couch and don’t know what to do with your old one? Instead of selling it, donate it! This could mean hulling it to Goodwill or Salvation Army where they can take it off your hands and sell it to raise funds for their organizations or it could mean donating it to a space in an organization that needs a couch so people can relax. Many organizations accept household items, clothing, tools, and more. Sharing is caring!

5. #Unselfie
The idea behind #unselfie is to capture a moment where you are being selfless. This could mean baking cookies and handing them out at work, opening the door for someone, making someone smile. It shows how you are supporting #GivingTuesday here in Guelph. Watch as the social movement of #unselfie goes underway again this year!

5 Ways for Your Business to Get Involved

There are so many great local business who are passionate about this community and want to give back. We at Guelph Gives would love to partner with you and help you with some giving back to Guelph. We know that you are busy, that your time goes to running and making your businesses a success, so we want to support you to make this happen.

We’ve always said, participating in Guelph Gives is as easy as thinking of a way to give back and then doing it—and it really is that simple. But we always want to help give you some ideas–some starter tips– on things you could do for Guelph Gives. This isn’t about re-inventing the wheel, your business may already do something around the holiday season to give-back (which is awesome!) but maybe you could pledge that activity or publicize that activity on December 1st—that is a way to give back.

To get your creative juices flowing (or to give you your giving day idea) here are 5 great ways a business could get involved in Guelph Gives:

1. If you have a holiday party, get your staff to bring in a canned food item, a used winter coat, socks, a small financial donation or a toy—donate theses to a great cause! (Remember, if your holiday party happens before Dec. 1st, bring the donations to a charity of choice on Dec 1st….if the party happens after, announce your intention on this day).

2. Host a staff lunch for your staff—you buy the lunch but you ask your staff to make a donation to partake. All the donations can go to a cause of your choice.

3. Host an “item” (you pick the item) drive in your office or store for the month of November. On December 1st, donate it to the cause of your choice.

4. Get a team together and volunteer at a place that you love (again, it doesn’t have to be on December 1st, just announce your intention to do it on that day).

5. Run an e-campaign or a social media campaign for a cause that you are passionate about. Get the awareness out there for the needs of a charity or cause that you feel makes the world a better place.

No idea is too big or too small! It doesn’t matter how you give, all we ask is that you give. When we give together we no longer are just part of our own individual giving story; we become part of a giving movement.

Join the movement and inspire generosity!

Attention Giving Partners

We want to help you create the best Guelph Gives campaign possible, and to help you with that process we have developed a Guelph Gives “How-To” Guide.

How-To GuideThis guide shares with you, our giving partners, why you should participate, how to sign up, when to sign-up and the resources we can share with you to help.

You can access this “how-to” here!

In terms of charity registration, we are doing things a little different this year. We want to kick things off with a bang and have lots of stuff in place for you from the minute you sign up! Because of this, we are moving charity registration to between Oct. 1st-Nov. 10th. We know you might be getting eager to start and please do! You can absolutely start planning what you want to do, tweeting about, promoting it–we’ll help! We are creating an official sign-up time in order to best serve the charities that partner with us, but it is not designed to hinder your planning efforts whatsoever.

Happy Guelph Gives Planning! We are so excited to see what 2015 brings.

United Way Supports Guelph Gives (and Vice Versa)

A common question we get when talking with charities about Guelph Gives is if they can participate in both Guelph Gives and receive United Way support. The answer is: ABSOLUTELY!

We have a great relationship with the awesomely generous people at UW–people who support an love this community and want to see it thrive. To help clear up any confusion, we drafted a joint statement with UW to help bring clarity to those charities who want to be part of both. Here it is (please note, it is written from the voice of UW):

We love being a part of this community and because of this we are also proud supporters and co-chairs of the Guelph Gives initiative this year. Guelph Gives aims to celebrate the power of generosity in our community and to inspire giving of all kinds. Guelph Gives is a one-day event for agencies and organizations to come together and highlight all the great projects and programs in Guelph. We encourage every charity in our community to look into how they can get involved and take part of this civic-wide philanthropic event in Guelph.

There were some questions raised last year about how United Way funded agencies could participate in Guelph Gives, and we thought we’d address them early this year. During the United Way campaign period (September 12-November 30th), our goal is to make sure we maximize our fundraising efforts so that you, our partner agencies, can focus on the amazing programs and services that you deliver to this community. It is with the goal of supporting you to the best of our ability in mind, that prompts us to ask you to not to solicit funds during this period. We want to help the community, but we need some time to raise that support.

However, there are still many ways for you to get involved in Guelph Gives during the United Way campaign period. To help get your wheels turning, here are some great examples:

  • Help us celebrate generosity in our community by visiting, liking the Guelph Gives Facebook page, or including #GuelphGives in your tweets
  • Share a story about how generosity has affected you and/or your agency and include @GuelphGives or #GuelphGives in the message.
  • Talk to your team, your board, and organizations/businesses that already partner with you, to see how you might want to participate on December 1st (Guelph Gives Day). Brainstorm a creative idea that this community will remember.
  • Mention your participation in a newsletter or communication, to let people know that you will be participating on December 1st and encourage others to check out how they could be involved.

We would also encourage you to retweet @UWGuelph messages and even feel free to include us in any of the Guelph Gives related messages you send. We want to celebrate your participation in this event.

As for the day-of, December 1st, there are many ways that you can participate. Be creative! Participating really is as easy as thinking of a way that you could give back (or others could give to you). Put out a call for volunteers, do an awareness building campaign on an issue you are passionate about, launch a holiday giving plan (it will be the first day of December remember!), or host an open house so people can see your work. No idea is too big or too small. Another great way that will engage others might be to participate with a business or organization you already work with (it is important that it be an existing partnership if asking during the United Way campaign period) on an initiative to take place on December 1st.

We want to thank each of you for the work you do in the community and for your continued support of United Way. We feel so fortunate to be part of a community so dedicated to giving back and are proud of the support we can offer to you.

If you have any questions about the United Way campaign or how you can be involved with Guelph Gives, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Guelph Gives wants to say a huge thank-you to the United Way for their continued partnership and support!

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Part of Guelph Gives

On December 1st, we are going to be celebrating giving back as an entire community, but of course we need the community to be involved to do this.

Guelph Gives is all about the power of generosity. Giving is inspiring, it spurs us and others on to do more for our community; we want to make this community a better place and giving is a great way to do that. And we celebrate all kinds of giving–whether you give your time, talent, treasure we want to share this with others so we can celebrate the giving that makes this community the awesome place that it is. Whether you are a not-for-profit, a business, an organization, a family or an individual we want to engage you in Guelph Gives. We want you to give so that we can all see just how generous this city is.

Need another reason to participate? Here are 5!

  1. You get to celebrate your favourite cause. Whatever you are passionate about you can give to, run a social media campaign around, volunteer with, and so much more! Share with others the work that inspires you!
  2. You get to be part of a worldwide movement. Join with other people around the world who also want to give back and who care about giving. How inspiring is it to think of the millions of people who are giving alongside one another on other ends of the world!
  3. Your giving, or your giving story (which we try to feature and/or retweet), could inspire someone else to give back. You could be that spark that inspires someone to get involved with a cause they might be passionate about.
  4. You love Guelph! There is something special about this city–it is a city that is known for being leaders, innovators, but maybe most importantly for being caring. This is chance to help this city—to strengthen the businesses and organizations that make this city great. Do it out of your love for Guelph!
  5. Giving is good! It gives those warm fuzzies inside–both to those who give and to those who benefit from giving. As Guelph Gives kicks-off the giving season, be a part of that holiday cheer right at the beginning of the month. It’s ok to feel good about giving–enjoy and celebrate with all the people giving to this community!

Whether you are a not-for-profit, a business, a local organization or an individual, join the movement and give-back on December 1st!

We’re Back!

The Guelph Gives 2015 Campaign is in full gear and we are excited to see another year of giving back in our city. Armed with great success from last year’s campaign, combined with some amazing learning experiences and feedback, we are launching a whole new campaign this year that will inspire giving, strengthen this community and showcase the power of generosity.

This year we are all about engagement—we are hoping that charities, individuals, organization and businesses will come on board and work together as we give back to this city. Remember, the day is all about celebrating ever single act of giving! We want to see grants awarded, volunteers sign-up, clothing donated, food donated, blood given, pets adopted, coffee purchased (for someone else of course!) and so many other kinds of giving.  Participating is as easy as thinking of a way to give back and then doing it!

We want Instagram photos, creative tweets and eye-catching FB posts as we gather together to celebrate giving. But we need you to be part of this if we are going to make it happen.

Just to give you a teaser of some of what is happening:

  • Charities displayed throughout the city so you can learn more about great local causes
  • Online photos and stories sharing giving moments happening around the city
  • Giving stations (not financial) throughout the city to make giving back simple and easy
  • A wrap-up event that will include fun for the whole family

Join the movement and be part of Guelph Gives this December 1st. Whether you’re a charity, a business, and organization or an individual we want you to be part of this day!

Guelph Gives: Inspiring Giving

GuelphGives Save the Day

And the Total is….

What an amazingly, awesomely huge, beautiful number! These are the funds that are going to be invested in our community; the funds that have been raised, pledged and contributed to awesome causes that are giving hope to this community and to many great causes around the world.

Guelph, we could not be prouder of you! This number is a testament to how generous this community is. We always had faith in this community and we are just so happy (and more in love) with this community. Let’s celebrate this number and what it represents– a beautiful “coming-together” of Guelph’s not-for-profits, businesses, organizations and individuals who wanted to all make a difference.

You have inspired us Guelph, let’s hope our story can also help inspire others.

Now, this number is our monetary fundraising total. We are still working at gather all the other data–volunteer hours, clothing donated, pounds of food raised etc.–so that we can report ALL the great ways this community has given back. We do want to celebrate all the different kinds of giving (some data is just harder to gather than others and we want to make sure we deliver the right numbers). Stay tuned for an exciting graphic update soon to come.

Happy Friday, Guelphites! Be proud of yourselves and may the giving spirit continue throughout the holiday season and into the New Year!

Yours generously,

The GuelphGives Team.

This GivingTuesday, Consider United Way!

Why Should I Give to United Way?

Our community is much more than our physical environment.  It is a place where we know one another, where we are loved, where we feel safe.  It’s made up of our friends, our neighbours, co-workers and family.  And it’s a place we take pride in when we tell people where we live.

This is the City of Guelph.

Guelph is famous for being one of the most caring communities in the country.  This year on Giving Tuesday we are trying to prove just that!  Here at United Way, as we push to raise $3.5 million for 86 programs at 53 local agencies, we urge you to consider making a donation to United Way.

Here’s why:

  1. One donation to United Way helps 53 local agencies.

Through a network of more than 50 local community agencies, United Way ensures thousands of people each day have a helping hand when they need it.  We know that people in need access many United Way funded agencies to get the help they require.  With one donation to United Way you can ensure all the stops on their journey to create a better quality of life for themselves or their family are there when they need them.

  1. We do the research.

With so many deserving causes, it can be hard to know where your donation can do the most good.  Carefully reviewed and selected by trained volunteers and staff, you can rest assured that United Way funded programs best respond to community needs and have a real and measureable impact on the lives of people in our community.

  1. United Way touches everyone.

Last year, over 87,000 people accessed a United Way funded program.  United Way funded programs help everyone from infants to seniors and chances are someone you know has turned to a United Way program at some point in their life, or will in the future.

  1. United Way makes change that start here.

A donation to United Way keeps our community safe and thriving and helps us realize the type of community we all want – one that sees no one go hungry, one that sees our children achieve their full potential and one that is engaged, strong and supportive.  For more information on our three funding streams, visit

On Tuesday December 2, please consider making a donation to United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.  Together, we can continue to improve lives, build community and make change start here.Print

Intrigue Media Gives for GuelphGives!

Intrigue Media is happy to be a part of GuelphGives!

Since day one, Intrigue has focused on building and strengthening communities. Giving back and actively supporting local businesses, charities, city events, and cultural activities has been a primary focus for Intrigue in every community they operate in.

In addition to being a media sponsor for GuelphGives, from now until December 2nd, Intrigue Media is collecting non-perishable food items for the Guelph Food Bank. Food banks are extra busy during the fall and winter months – with the cold weather comes costly heat and hydro bills and the need to purchase extra clothing. The Guelph Food Bank has been supporting the community for over 26 years and sees 50-75 families each morning, 5 days a week. They depend 100% on the support of local individuals, businesses, schools, and service organizations. There are also 24 other agencies that depend on their distribution operation including the University of Guelph CSA Food Bank, youth shelters, women’s shelters, recovery homes, and more.

Did you know the Guelph Food Bank is actually much more than just a Food Bank? They have a Teaching Garden, a kitchen where they teach cooking skills, a clothing exchange, Free Income Tax Clinics, co-op placements, Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program and many other programs.

All Intrigue team members and visitors are encouraged to bring in donations to the office – let’s show them that Guelph is the most generous city in Canada!

A huge business shout out and thanks!

One of the biggest components to making a GivingTuesday campaign—and thus a GuelphGives campaign—successful, is getting some great local businesses on board who love their local community and want to be involved.

We have been lucky to find such businesses; businesses who want to support this community and want to give back to make GuelphGives a success throughout Guelph (and Canada). These businesses believe that Guelph is Canada’s most generous city and they want to inspire others in this belief. We want to thank the businesses below who have some great December 2nd activities planned for GuelphGives. We will be telling each of their full stories over the coming weeks, but just want to give a huge shout of thanks to them!

Here they are:

Other Cities Vying for the Title of “Most Generous City”

BD_GG_FINAL_BLUETwitter has gone alight with other cities who think they could offer a challenge to Guelph’s GivingTuesday Campagin Guelph Gives.

Regina, Calgary and Sarnia (&Lambton) believe that they can give Guelph a run for their money, publically challenging us to put our money where our mouths are. The friendly banter has begun, the challenges and smack talk laid down, and each campaign is moving into high gear with just over 3 weeks until December 2nd aka GivingTuesday.

We in Guelph have never been shy in our goal—we absolutely intend to prove that Guelph is Canada’s most generous city. There is no doubt in our mind that this is the case, but we need your help to prove it.

Can you help us? Can you be part of GuelphGives and showcase what an amazing place Guelph truly is?

Being part of GuelphGives is easy–really, really easy. All you need to do is think of way to give back to Guelph and share your giving moment.
You could buy lunch for a friend. Pay for someone’s coffee. Donate blood. Get your office or workplace involved. Adopt a pet. Raise awareness for a great local cause. Donate to a organization you’d like to support (if you usually make a holiday gift to one—why not do it on December 2nd). Volunteer your time somewhere. Really it is a simple is to give something good that helps this community.

We would also love to see you at our GuelphGives events, including our GivingFair at Quebec Street Maill, a free skate at the Sleeman Centre, and our display and charity Plinko at Stone Road Mall. Going to any or all of these events is also a great way to give!

Be part of the movement and let’s show those other Canadian cities who really is the most generous city (Guelph obviously).

Remember: 1 City. 1Day. $1 Million.

University of Guelph 50 Challenge

On December 2, something a little different will be going on here at the University of Guelph – we’re going to be launching the U of G 50 Challenge!

The University of Guelph, one of the top comprehensive universities in Canada, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. On GivingTuesday, we’re presenting a challenge to our whole community: let’s raise $50,000 from 1,964 donors, in 50 hours.

We’ve had a number of very generous grads, staff, and parents offer ‘matching’ dollars to incentivize giving. If someone gives to a select fund (one of the ones listed on our website), then their donation will be matched 1:1. It’s a great way for members of our community to really maximize their giving!

We’re also offering a unique opportunity for students to participate in the U of G 50 Challenge. On Giving Tuesday we’re going to have a special ‘50’ (made by our Fine Arts Network) displayed in the University Centre. Students are being asked to stop by, add $.50 to the 50, and take an ‘unselfie’. All donations to this initiative are going to be going towards our library.

We’re going to be communicating with grads, parents, and on campus constituents via email, phone, and of course social media. Our team of 100+ ‘Forever a Gryphon’ social media ambassadors will be on the ground as well, spreading the news of the U of G 50 Challenge from coast to coast.

You can learn more about the U of G Challenge at (which will launch on December 2nd) or by searching the hashtag #UofG50 on Twitter.

U of G is happy to see how the giving fair hosted on campus last year has grown and evolved into the city-wide give-back day that is GuelphGives and is very proud to be a part of this do-good initiative!

Skyline Hosts Clothing Drive for GuelphGives!

Skyline is thrilled to announce that it will be participating in GuelphGives 2014, as a part of the international GivingTuesday initiative.

From November 17th – November 28th, 2014, Residents and Skyline staff in each of Skyline’s 136 residential buildings across Ontario will be participating in a Warm Winter Clothing Drive, collecting gently-used children’s and adults’ winter clothing, which will be donated to various charities across Ontario on Giving Tuesday on December 2nd, 2014. This means Skyline will be helping families bundle up for the chilly weather in 41 communities across the province!

Skyline’s Head Office in downtown Guelph is also participating in this initiative – its 60+ staff will also be bringing in their gently used coats, sweaters, scarves and more, and donating the winter gear to the Onward Willow: Better Beginnings, Better Futures organization, as well as the Brant Avenue Neighbourhood Group. All Skyline participants have been encouraged to get their friends and family involved as well!

Skyline strives to improve the lives of its residents, employees, and the community at large, in any way it can. That’s why it is committed to providing support to community organizations in the company’s hometown of Guelph, and in each community in which Skyline’s buildings are located.

Skyline is truly proud to be a participant in this year’s GuelphGives campaign – we are excited to help make Guelph the most generous city in Canada!

Sleeman Brewery for GuelphGives

Sleeman Brewery has been a staple industry in the Guelph community for many years and they have a long history on giving back to make Guelph a better place. When we approached them to participate in GuelphGives they were completely on board and have a been a huge supporter since that moment!Sleeman

Sleeman Brewery is a member of the GuelphGives Steering Committee, one of GuelphGives first sponsors, and is now going to show how generous they are on December 2nd by announcing their United Way Fundraising total! This is a great way to participate in GuelphGives, to celebrate giving and to announce funds that will be going back into innovative work happening this community. We want to congratulate Sleeman Brewery on their United Way fundraising and want to thank them for saving their big announcement to celebrate giving-back in Guelph.

Sleeman is such a dedicated supporter of the Guelph community and are one of the many reasons the GuelphGives team knows that Guelph is Canada’s most generous city.

Can you follow their example and think of your own creative way to give-back on December 2nd?

Borealis Gets Behind GuelphGives!

If you haven’t yet treated your palette to the deliciousness that is Borealis Grille & Bar in Guelph, you  may want to make it a date this GivingTuesday on December 2nd!

Borealis recently informed the GuelphGives team of their amazingly generous plan for GivingTuesday…and it’s awesome.

The Borealis servers have decided to donate half of their tips on December 2nd to the Adopt-a-Family Program at The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. What’s even more is that Borealis is going to match the servers’ tips on that day, doubling the donation and impact on bringing Christmas to families in need in Guelph!

We couldn’t be more excited to see Borealis trail-blazing so far in Guelph. What is your organization, business or family doing to participate? Let us know by emailing us at and we’ll be sure to share your giving story.
